Acupuncture is one of the oldest continually practiced medical procedures in the world.
Ultra-fine sterile needles are inserted at specific points along the body’s meridian pathways to stimulate Qi. When we experience good health, energy flows unobstructed along pathways in the body called meridians. When energy flow is disrupted by an injury or illness, pain occurs. Acupuncture is then used to balance the flow of Qi and stimulate our body’s natural healing ability.
With the advent of advanced imaging tools such as Functional MRI’s, studies have demonstrated hemodynamic changes in specific brain networks are induced with acupuncture treatment. Research studies, conducted through the NIH, are ongoing.
